 |
The Niagara Escarpment, as of 1990, has been designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Region due to its rare ecological and cultural significance. It is one of only 12 biosphere reserves in Canada and is included in the 400 reserves throughout 95 countries.
The Niagara Escarpment consists of 725 km of reserve, stretching from Queenston to Tobermory, featuring the Bruce Trail. The Bruce Trail is 800 km of land, home to more than 300 bird species, 53 mammal species, 35 reptile and amphibian species, 90 fish species and 100 forms of unique flora. The Niagara Escarpment is rich in agricultural heritage consisting of vineyards, tender fruit and mixed farming.
